Alumni holiday giving opportunities

present-21As the holiday season approaches, the DU Alumni Association is reaching out to a family from Grand Rapids, Mich., who doesn’t have the means to provide holiday gifts or a meal for their family. We invite you to help us make this holiday special for a single mother and her four children by choosing an item from the list to purchase.

Please contact Carol Distel at 616-233-3416 in Alumni Relations before buying any items to ensure that there will be no duplicates. Please drop off your gift unwrapped to the Alumni Relations Office located in the Cook Administration Building at 415 East Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, Mich. Our office must receive all gifts by December 16, 2009.

If Grand Rapids is too far to drop off a gift, here are additional giving opportunities hosted by our local campuses.

Alma has adopted a current student and her family who lost their belongings in a recent house fire. Please contact Kristy Best at 989-463-8922 for ways you can help.

On-line degree programs

dsc_6429Wishing you could complete your undergraduate degree or obtain a master’s degree, but you’re not sure how school will fit into your already packed schedule? Davenport has the solution. Earn your degree online.

DU was among the first universities to offer students the ability to complete their degree program online. Many programs DU offers can be completed entirely online. You can also choose to take some of your classes online and some in a traditional classroom setting. “The online program is a complement to what the university already offers,” said Sherri Donovan, executive director of academic services. “Through our online course offerings, we are meeting the needs of students who may not have the ability to commit to a set time every week because of other responsibilities in their lives,” she said.

Online courses allow students who are comfortable communicating virtually to leverage technology to meet their educational goals. “Our online model is highly interactive,” explained Donovan, “and discussion groups with fellow classmates and professors are not only encouraged but required.”
