DU Women’s Basketball Coach, Mark Youngs, has won the 2010 Russell Athletic/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region 4 Coach of the Year for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

During the 2009–2010 season, Youngs guided his Lady Panthers to the Sweet 16 at the NAIA D2 National Tournament, giving them a 30–2 overall record—even ranking as high as #1 in the NAIA D2 polls earlier in the season. When asked about the award, Youngs commented, “I am very honored to receive the award especially because it is voted on by other coaches from around the region.”

Winners are selected through a two-level process. The first level is by region, in which coaches from each WBCA geographical region vote for their respective top coach. If a coach has been selected as Regional Coach of the Year, they advance as a finalist to the national level of the selection process, along with the other Regional Coaches of the Year in their respective division.

The winners of the RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coach of the Year for each division will be honored on Monday, April 5, 2010, at a luncheon in San Antonio, TX. The luncheon is part of the 2010 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four®.
