The 2010 Alumni Awards Banquet, honoring extraordinary alumni for their notable achievements and outstanding service to the University and the community, will be held on October 15, 2010 at Kent Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. (Map)

The 8th Annual Homecoming Tailgate & Hockey Game will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids. Join DU alumni, students and friends in cheering on the three-time national championship Panther hockey team as they face off against cross-state rivals University of Michigan – Dearborn.

Time: 6 p.m. – Indoor tailgate | 8 p.m. – Pre-game show & game

This is a family friendly event! There will be an inflatable bounce house, obstacle course and face painting too!

iPad and other prizes being awarded

Was your experience at Davenport positive and rewarding? How would you like to express that in our next ad campaign and have the chance to win a new iPad? We are currently accepting photo and video submissions explaining the greatest benefit you got from attending DU. Did you have an inspirational instructor? Did you learn something in class that is helping you in your career today? We want to hear about it!

We’ll be choosing a handful of people from these submissions to be in the Davenport University commercials. On top of that, we’ll randomly choose one Grand Prize winner and four runner ups. The Grand Prize winner will recieve a wi-fi capable, 16gb iPad! Runner-ups will get $50 gift cards. All submissions must be recieved by 11:59 p.m., October 5, 2010.

Video Submissions
Record a simple video (60 seconds or less) to your own YouTube account. Please tag your video Davenport University and DU Ad contest.  Your video must answer the question “What is the greatest benefit you got from attending DU.” It must also include your name, what campus you attended and where you work. Once your video is uploaded, please email the URL of the video to Jason Madden, Alumni Relations Manager.

Photo Submissions
To submit a photo, snap a simple headshot of yourself and upload to the Davenport University Alumni Facebook page. (You must first “like” the page before you can post to it) Along with the photo, please include a sentence or two answering the question “What is the greatest benefit you got from attending DU.” Also include your name, what campus you attended and where you work. After you’ve uploaded your picture to the alumni Facebook, please email the picture to Jason Madden, Alumni Relations Manager.

A record setting year for the Scholarship Golf Classic

A perfect late August day was the setting for this year’s Davenport Scholarship Golf Classic, held at Egypt Valley Country Club. With a record 296 registered golfers this was the most successful year recorded in the 24-year history of the event.

With more than $100,000 raised this year, we thank everyone who came out to play and those who joined us for dinner and the auction. We are sincerely grateful to all of our sponsors for their generous contributions. All funds raised will support Davenport University student scholarships.

New Director of Alumni Relations joins DU

Cathie Rogg was recently appointed as DU’s new Director of Alumni Relations working with Alumni Relations Manager, Jason Madden ’08, and Alumni Relations Coordinator, Carol Distel, to enhance the current program and create new and exciting opportunities for our alumni from throughout our history.

Cathie has served as Assistant Head of School and Director of Development and Alumni Relations for an independent school in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. She has directed a development and alumni relations program at a northern Michigan community college and has several years experience in university administration. With a total of 24 years in education, 17 which were in development and alumni relations, she brings experience and energy to the advancement program. She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree from Central Michigan University.

Barbara Allushuski and Dan West will speak to your career as it pertains to today’s local economic climate. Barbara is President/CEO at Right Management, a talent and career management company, and Dan is President of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce.

You will learn how to ensure you are adding value to your organization, get tips on being prepared for tomorrow and brush up on ways to reflect a more positive attitude towards others.

Following the presentations, you will have the opportunity to network with area business leaders, professors and alumni from Davenport University and Detroit College of Business.

Robert W. Sneden Center officially dedicated

The University is honored to have recently received a $2.5 million donation from the M.E. Davenport Foundation toward the newest academic building on the W.A. Lettinga Campus in Grand Rapids – the Robert W. Sneden Center. The new building was officially dedicated on Tuesday, Sept. 14. More than 200 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including members of the Sneden family, University board members, students, faculty and staff.

The new facility enables DU to expand student enrollment and services at the W.A. Lettinga Campus and increase access and opportunities for business, education and the greater Grand Rapids community. It will enhance the learning environment for students and also be a valued resource for business and community organizations.
