The Alumni eNewsletter needs a new name!

Alumni News, the online alumni newsletter, needs a new name! Since it’s news just for alums, we thought we’d let our great graduates rename it! It can be anything Davenport-related so feel free to use DU, Davenport University, Davenport or Panthers in your title! As part of Davenport’s alumni outreach, a small group of Detroit College of Business alumni and former employees of DCB gathered in December for a luncheon with Dr. Jim Mendola. It was a fun time for old friends to reminisce and an opportunity to meet a great group of people who remain connected by a common bond – a love of their former college and/or employer. More DCB events are being planned and all DCB alumni will be invited!

Upcoming DU Career Fairs

Davenport University will be hosting four career fairs this spring for DU students and alumni. Pre-registration by employers is strong. Combined, there are already 60 employers registered to attend! Job outlooks are very positive for the 2011 year, particularly in business, accounting, finance, technology and health. We anticipate new companies at these events as well.

If you are looking for an opportunity to meet employers, talk about internships, full-time, part-time or seasonal help, or network with companies, please attend one of our career fairs listed below.

2nd Annual Winterfest

On Saturday, January 15, Davenport’s Winterfest weekend hosted alumni athletes with men’s and women’s alumni basketball games kicking off the day. Alumni vs. alumni in customized DU team t-shirts enjoyed great games, many having an opportunity to play with former teammates again and even a few students.

Have your taxes prepared by DU accounting students for free!

DU Student Linh Van preparing returns

All alums have the opportunity to have their taxes prepared for free by DU accounting students at one of the eight Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites across West Michigan. In order to be eligible, your family income must not exceed $50,000.

More than 60 DU students will be joined by accounting students from three other West Michigan area universities to prepare tax returns from Jan. 24 – Apr. 18, 2011.

There is still time to “Take a Seat”

With over half of the seats already sponsored in the Wilbur and Sharon Lettinga Auditorium, time is running out to make an affordable and meaningful contribution to the Davenport Fund.

When you sponsor a seat, a brass nameplate bearing the inscription of your choice will be affixed to the arm of the seat. Each nameplate has space for 3 lines with a maximum of 18 characters per line.
