Davenport Rugby goes back-to-back with 39-0 win over San Diego State

On May 19, the Davenport Rugby team claimed its second consecutive national championship with a 39-0 win over San Diego State in the 2012 USA Rugby DI-AA final. The Panthers posted a 24-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, finishing the season with a perfect 11-0.

The national title is the second straight for Davenport as they captured the DI championship last season in Stanford, Calif. with a 38-19 win over UC-Santa Barbara.

Make a Difference!

Are you saying to yourself “Why me? I still have loans.”

That may be true, but why not you?

Perhaps you received a scholarship, some financial aid, or a little help from your family. Why not pay it forward!

For a gift of $20, you can invest in reducing someone else’s loans by providing scholarship support. That’s the cost of a pizza or a movie for two. Think of the difference you can make.

Here’s a fun way to look at it. Let’s say you graduated in 2008. A gift equivalent to $20.08 can make a difference.  If four others do the same, that’s $100 toward a scholarship to help out a future fellow alum! It’s that simple.

Facts are:

  • Almost 95% of all current Davenport University students receive some form of financial aid – including scholarships – to help fund their education and achieve their career and life dreams.
  • Davenport wants to help more students achieve success by providing more scholarship support.
  • Your help is needed to make a Davenport education accessible to anyone who wants it.
  • Every gift matters, no matter the size!

Honor your graduation year and the personal accomplishment that it represents all over again.

Honor your University. Honor yourself. Honor a student.

Thank you for making your gift today!

2012 Excellence in Business Dinner Gala honors Van Andels

A significant source of scholarship funds for Davenport University comes from the annual Excellence in Business (EIB) Dinner Gala. Creating competitive advantages for our students is a primary focus at Davenport through outstanding academic instruction and leadership, diverse student life opportunities, top-notch support services and facilities, and scholarships.

This year’s event honored local business and community leaders David and Carol Van Andel. Nearly 850 guests attended the black tie fundraiser on Friday, May 11, where the Van Andels received the Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business Award.

Tom Izzo, head coach of men’s basketball at Michigan State University, was the keynote speaker for the gala, in its 14th year of raising scholarship funds for DU students.

The Excellence in Business dinner was established in 1998 in honor of alumnus Peter C. Cook. Since then, nearly $2 million has been raised to benefit Davenport University foundation scholarships through these annual award galas. Previous award recipients include Peter C. Cook, Frederik Meijer, Richard M. DeVos, Wilbur A. Lettinga, David G. Frey, John Spoelhof, Robert L. Hooker, Betsy DeVos, Donald W. Maine, John C. Canepa, Fred P. Keller, Ambassador Peter F. Secchia, Doug DeVos and Steve Van Andel, and Jim Hackett.
