Wes Moore LIVE at the W.A. Lettinga Campus

New York Times bestselling author, Wes Moore, will speak at the W.A. Lettinga Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.  The event will be held in the Student Center and is free and open to the public.

Moore’s book, entitled The Other Wes Moore, will serve as both the Community Read and as the Common Read (required reading for FRSM100) this academic school year. The book is about two young men with the same name living in the same city. One grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated combat veteran, White House Fellow and business leader. The other is serving a life sentence in prison for murder. This engaging and thought-provoking read, encourages readers to consider the intersections of personal and societal responsibility.

This event is appropriate for all ages; school and community groups are encouraged to attend.

Another successful DCB Alumni & Friends outing

What a beautiful day for golf! The Detroit College of Business Alumni Reunion Golf Outing on September 28 was a great success. Our golfers enjoyed an 18-hole scramble followed by a delicious lunch and door prizes that varied from an AFLAC duck head cover to DU gear to “vintage” DCB t-shirts. A unique auction item of a one-of-a-kind custom DCB golf bag and matching umbrella was donated by Dr. Jim Mendola and was taken home by DCB alumnus and golfer Steven Sicklesteel, ‘80.

Proceeds support the DCB Alumni Scholarship Fund for students in SE Michigan. Jim Loughran, Executive Director of the Livonia campus, shared a compelling story about one recent graduate who pursued his education at the age of 40 to fulfill his mother’s dream for him before she passed away from a terminal illness. He accomplished his goal with the help of scholarships, faculty and advisor assistance. It was a powerful story shared with alumni who each have stories of their own.

Next year’s event is scheduled to begin at noon on September 13, 2013, at Dearborn Hills Golf Club. Save the date!
