You Make the Difference

As 2012 draws to a close, I would like to thank our donors for the impact they have made in the lives of our students. Because of you the Davenport Fund was able to award nearly $900,000 in scholarship support for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.  Receiving a scholarship from the Davenport Fund is often the deciding factor in one’s choice to pursue their educational dreams.

As we look forward toward to 2013, we have the opportunity to make an even greater impact.  Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution by December 31st.  As always, you can choose a specific scholarship, program or athletic team to support or give to the general fund. One hundred percent of your gift goes toward scholarship or program support – no administrative costs are ever deducted.

Homecoming 2012

A new tradition begins on campus!

This year’s Panther Nation themed Homecoming provided a week of social celebratory events and friendly competitions across all campuses. The week began with acknowledgement of our Veterans on Veteran’s Day and included a blood mobile, Men’s “flower fluff” volleyball, a lip-sync and dance competition, Women’s Powder Puff football, movie nights, University-wide banner competitions, chili cook-offs, friendly athletic competitions, a DU Chopped cooking competition, comedian J. Chris Newberg and a DU’s Got Talent show to name a few.

On Homecoming Day, November 17, DU featured its “home” campus and its men’s and women’s basketball teams which played against Marygrove College Mustangs. Our Panthers pounced the Marygrove College Mustangs with a 101 to 49 score for the women and 82-38 for the men. Preceding those games men’s and women’s alumni players enjoyed reunion games.

The gym was filled with energy and enthusiasm as the Cheer Team and Dance Team performed during both games. Raffle drawings were held during half-times and between games and one lucky family won tickets to a Pistons game on November 23. Children enjoyed the inflatable obstacle course, a bounce house, our resident climbing wall and tours of the new Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
