Graduation Ceremony Culminates Prosperous Student Careers at DU…

On Sunday, April 27, hundreds of Davenport University students took part in graduation ceremonies at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids.  The Commencement Ceremony honored over 800 new graduates from DU’s Donald W. Maine College of Business, College of Technology, College of Health Professions and College of Arts & Sciences.

Wolverine Worldwide CEO, Blake Krueger, provided the keynote address to new graduates.  Mr. Krueger also received an honorary doctorate degree from Davenport before his speech, and was very humbled to receive such an honor.  DU is proud to once again launch brand-new graduates out into the world primed for success and ready to take on any challenge in their field of expertise.

1st Future Alumni Network of Students (FANS) Event a Success…

On Saturday, April 19, the DU Alumni Association hosted the very first FANS (Future Alumni Network of Students) event at the Farmer’s Insurance Athletic Complex near the W.A. Lettinga Campus. DU FANS gathered for a “Tailgate Toss” tournament where teams, comprised of over 30 students, competed and displayed their bean bag tossing abilities in the hopes of making the finals where the last two teams standing were guaranteed a great prize.  The runner’s-up each received a set of special acoustic headphones while the champions each received a Samsung Tablet. Davenport University Bookstore gift cards were also awarded to two “DU Superfans” who expressed their passion for DU throughout the contest.  Enjoy photos of the event here.

The purpose of the FANS program is to generate awareness of the Alumni Association and all of its encompassing activities to DU students before they graduate so they know of the benefits offered to them once they receive their degrees through a joint Alumni Association and Career Services partnership.  Our students, or “Future Alumni,” hold the key to a prosperous future for the institution moving forward, and it is imperative that they know what life-long services are available to them once they graduate, and how much the Alumni Association emphasizes keeping a connection to DU after that last class is completed.  Read more about the FANS program here.

DU Young Alumni Council Update…

The Davenport University Young Alumni Council consists of a conglomerate of recent graduates who want to stay involved with the university and give back to the institution that gave so much to them during their educational endeavors.  Recently, the Young Alumni Council established “Chair,” “Vice-Chair” and “Secretary” positions and appointed a Council member to each.  The group has been very active, recently engaging with the community of DU young alumni through a Grand Rapids Griffins hockey game night, a series of mixers, additional events with the Grand Rapids Young Professionals (GRYP), and a hysterical comedy night at Dr. Grins Comedy Club located inside The B.O.B. downtown Grand Rapids.

Coming up on May 20, the Young Alumni Council will be hosting a “Spring Clean-Up” evening at Ele’s Place in Grand Rapids, which is a healing center for grieving children and teens.  All DU young alumni are encouraged to join the Young Alumni Council and attend this volunteer event at Ele’s Place (map).

Please connect with the Young Alumni Council by email at or by clicking here.  Your involvement and presence as a young alumni for this outstanding cause would be greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned to for additional information on an upcoming DU Young Alumni West Michigan Whitecaps baseball game this summer as well.  The group will be looking to set a new attendance record and would love to have you join them.
