After a thorough national search, Davenport University has hired Christy L.A. Nelson, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA,  as the University’s Founding Chair of the Occupational Therapy Program. Nelson currently serves as an Associate Professor for the Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Health Professions at University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. She will begin her new role at Davenport on June 3, 2013.

“Dr. Nelson brings considerable experience to Davenport University,” said Dr. Karen Daley, Dean of the College of Health Professions. “As the Founding Chair for the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, Dr. Nelson will grow the program from the ground up and ensure it is one of the best in Michigan.”

Nelson will be responsible for the development of the program including construction of the curriculum, development of policies and procedures, management of budget and operations, recruitment of faculty and enlistment of fieldwork and experiential learning sites.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, her Master of Science in Nutrition at the University of Iowa and her Doctor of Philosophy in the Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program at the University of Missouri – Columbia USA.
