Davenport University has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC), with plans to compete on a provisional basis beginning with the 2017-18 academic year. Davenport’s participation in GLIAC is contingent upon acceptance into the NCAA Division II membership program, which we anticipate will occur by this summer.

This is the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort by the entire DU athletics department under the leadership of Paul Lowden. We have always enjoyed our affiliations with the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) as well as the regional rivalries and national championship opportunities they have provided. We will continue to compete as an NAIA and WHAC member for the 2016-17 academic year.

We anticipate new rivalries will develop through the new GLIAC affiliation, and we look forward to the high quality of competition that NCAA Division II will bring. This is yet another realization of a goal we established as part of Vision 2020, as these affiliations will further support student recruitment and retention efforts by Davenport while also boosting its visibility throughout the Midwest.

Thank you to Paul and his team for all their hard work to earn this invitation from GLIAC.
