Reconstructing a warrior’s experience: Local artist to present at DU during Veterans Week


When Grand Rapids artist Matthew Provoast was cleaning out his grandfather’s home after he passed away, he came across boxes deep in the basement cupboards labeled “Viet Nam.” His grandfather, Thomas Zimmer, was a Metro Detroit native who served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972.

Gina Mezzano-Ostien, Associate Department Chair for English and Communications at the W.A. Lettinga Campus, has been named Outstanding Educator of the Year for 2017 by the Michigan Developmental Education Consortium. The award was presented at MDEC’s annual conference in Bay City on Friday, Oct. 13.

Mail and Copy Center to upgrade software and site

The W.A. Lettinga Campus Mail and Copy Center is upgrading its package tracking software and copy request site. The new systems are designed to improve tracking and notification options for mail and packages, as well as provide a more accessible, user-friendly platform for copy request submissions.

More than 150 alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends gathered to honor the accomplishments and service of six esteemed alumni during the 2017 Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 13.

Revised Student Evaluation of Teaching implemented this fall

A faculty committee has reviewed the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) survey and has made recommendations for changes which have been approved by the Provost.  The committee was able to focus questions on key criteria for successful instruction and evaluation of course materials.  The resulting survey is streamlined and will be easier for students to complete.
