Banner Performance it is Your System!!!

I am approaching my second year here at Davenport University, as the Banner Oracle Database Administrator. I hit the ground running and have not stopped since being here. This is a very special place and ranks at the top as the best place I have ever worked out the 5 previous oracle dba gigs.  I have implemented a total 3 ERP systems. Banner is also an ERP system which stands for Enterprise Resource Planning.   It is a  system that integrates (or attempt to integrate) all data and processes of an organization into a unified system. A typical ERP system will use multiple components of computer software and hardware to achieve the integration. A key ingredient of most ERP systems is the use of a unified database to store data for the various system modules.

One of the adventures in Project Management as it pertains to rolling out new hardware or software implementations is making sure you are meeting the needs and properly working with users (or customer), the vendor that you are acquiring the product from and working with the I.T.S. Department to provide most of the assistance to implement the solution that you have purchase.

The State of the Portal: December 2009

The Davenportal working group met again an Wednesday December 2nd. The first part of the meeting was a review of updates since our last meeting. We had set out to revise the student facing tab layouts, primarily Academic Tools & Accounts & Services. During the process we also began revising the layouts for the Student Life, LinC, Advising, and Online tabs. The goal of these revisions was to simplify the tabs down to the information and links students really need. This first round of updates was to make some immediate improvements while we examine how to make much larger improvements to the usability of our portal.
