When Grand Rapids artist Matthew Provoast was cleaning out his grandfather’s home after he passed away, he came across boxes deep in the basement cupboards labeled “Viet Nam.” His grandfather, Thomas Zimmer, was a Metro Detroit native who served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972.
Davenport University strives to help veterans achieve their academic goals and has allocated staff resources to military admissions and advising.

A faculty committee has reviewed the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) survey and has made recommendations for changes which have been approved by the Provost. The committee was able to focus questions on key criteria for successful instruction and evaluation of course materials. The resulting survey is streamlined and will be easier for students to complete.
OrgSync has migrated to a new platform called Engage@DU.
The Engage@DU platform will provide the tools and resources that OrgSync offered, in addition to a new layout with additional functionality. Engage@DU will provide a campus events calendar, student organization information and volunteer opportunities (including the VTO form for employees).
As a reminder, a Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15, for all Davenport University faculty and staff. This event will be held in the Wilbur & Sharon Lettinga Auditorium 2:30 to 4 p.m. and streamed live to other DU campuses.
Jim Van Dam — the 2016 Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipient — returned to Davenport University this week to speak in sport management classes. Van Dam is putting his sport management degree to use as the Manager of Corporate Sales at Tampa Bay Lightning, a professional ice hockey team based in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from DU in 2010.
“We love when alumni come back to share their insight with students!” said Sara Mooney, Assistant Director of Alumni Communications and Development. ”If you’re looking for an alumnus to speak in your class, the Alumni Office has a list of alumni who are eager to volunteer to speak in classes.”
The Davenport University Balanced Scorecard is now presented in a visual format in WebFocus Managed Reporting. The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are represented through gauges and charts which have drill-down reports.
The Balanced Scorecard is used to measure DU’s progress toward its vision. The BSC measures represent DU’s Five Focus Areas: Academic and Student Success, Operational Excellence, Workforce Engagement, Community Involvement, & Financial Viability.
